IRSE ‘Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals (Module A)’ Examination

Posted on 2021-04-21 17:17:46

The IRSE professional examination has long been recognised as the means by which engineers working in the railway control and communications profession can demonstrate a high level of competence. In 2020 the institution introduced an additional foundation level module. The module serves both as a pre-qualification for the three advanced modules and as a new standalone qualification, the “Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals“. In October 2020, nearly 200 candidates worldwide sat this module.

The module is suitable for a wide range of people working on or around railway control and communications systems. It is appropriate for junior signalling and telecoms engineers, project managers and planners, software developers, consultants and managers of contractors or sub-contractors. It enables all such people to demonstrate a knowledge of the fundamental principles and applications of these critical systems.

The next examination will be in October 2021, giving time for candidates to study. It is intended to offer the exam twice yearly thereafter. It is a 90 minute online test. Candidates will be offered a practice exam beforehand. No prior knowledge of the subject is needed.
