Third Presidential Lecture

23 June 2026, Sydney AU

Bin Zhu FIRSE and Federico Nardi FIRSE will present an AI-augmented approach to Human Factors engineering in railway signalling, exploring how AI-supported analysis can enhance HMI evaluation in safety-critical environments.

IRSE Exam

BOOKING NOW OPEN

Booking is now open for all four modules of the October IRSE exam. Candidates can sit either the Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals (Module A) or any of the Advanced Diploma modules (B, C, D).

The deadline to book is Sunday, 30 August. We encourage all candidates to make full use of the exam materials available on our website to support your preparation.

Members’ Lunch

Eddie Goddard Prize

Now open for entries

The Eddie Goddard Prize is now open to early-career IRSE members for the 2026/27 session.

The competition invites entrants to submit a short technical paper on a railway signalling, telecoms, train control or traffic management topic of their choice. The winner will receive £2,000 towards their future development.

Established in memory of former IRSE President Eddie Goddard, the prize recognises Eddie’s longstanding support for younger engineers and his passion for systems engineering approaches within the railway industry.

Papers must be no more than 3,000 words. Entries close on 14 November 2026, with the winner to be announced at the 2027 AGM.
