IRSE Annual General Meeting 2026

22 April 2026; Manchester, UK

Join us this April at the University of Manchester for the IRSE AGM and inauguration of President elect Rod Muttram.

The meeting will be followed by the first Presidential Lecture in the new series, ‘Human Factors in the Age of Automation’, delivered by Professor Sarah Sharples, Dean of Science and Engineering at the University of Manchester.

The AGM and Presidential lecture will also be live-streamed for those attending online.

Presidential lecture

5 March 2026; London, UK

Join us for the next Presidential lecture in Bogdan Godziejewski’s Presidential year on the theme ‘Engaging Generation Unlimited’.

Morgan Jones (Mott MacDonald) will present on how the role of railway signal engineers has significantly changed due to technological advancements, transitioning from manual lever frames to digital, automated systems. She’ll explore how this evolution has altered the nature of the signaller’s workload, shifting from physically demanding tasks to more cognitively intensive ones that are less visible.

A note on embracing sustainability

For the upcoming renewal period, members registered for e-membership will no longer receive paper invoices. All subscription renewal notices and invoices will be issued electronically.

This change supports our commitment to reducing paper consumption, lowering the carbon emissions and environmental impact associated with printing and mailing, while also improving efficiency and ensuring you receive your renewal information promptly.

Subscription changes and contact details

Following recommendations made to Council by the Fees Working Group, there will be a nominal increase to membership fees in July. This adjustment reflects the rising costs associated with delivering the services and benefits you value as a member.

Between now and 30 April you have the opportunity to change to, or from, e-membership. (Please note that e-members do not receive a printed copy of IRSE News, but can access the latest edition online by logging into the website at any time.)

To update your preferences online: Log in to the IRSE website and go to ‘My Account’ (top right), then ‘My Personal Details’ (left menu). Or contact us at membership@irse.org or on +44 (0)20 7808 1186.

Please also contact us directly if you:

  • have retired recently, as you may be eligible for the concessionary rate  
  • wish to set up a direct debit payment (UK bank accounts only).
