April’s IRSE News is now available online.  

As well as the latest news from the Institution and Local Sections, this month features articles on the UK experience of innovation, progress on ETCS in Spain and new specifications for Digital railway.read online

Preparation for subscription renewals

Do we have your most up to date contact details – especially your current email address and phone number?

We are aware that our members do change jobs, so if you are aware that you are about to change employer and are currently receiving your IRSE communications through your work email address, please be sure to contact us at membership@irse.org to let us know either your new work email address, or an alternative one, as soon as you can.

This is also your chance to tell us about any changes to your circumstances or subscription preferences.  If you wish to change to (or from) being an e-member then please log in and change this online or contact us.  (Please note e-members do not receive the hard copy IRSE News but are able to read the latest edition online by logging into the IRSE website).  

If you have retired recently then please contact us to discuss whether you are eligible for the concessionary subscription rate.

IRSE Annual General Meeting 2022

21 April 2022; Derby, UK & Online, 17:30 (UTC+1)

The 2022 IRSE AGM will be held at the Derby Conference Centre, Derby, England  at 5.30pm UK time on Thursday 21 April 2022.

The proceedings will be livestreamed and there will be 30 seats available for members wishing to attend the AGM in person on a first come first served basis.

Annual Dinner 2022

Thanks to an overwhelming response from our members, partners and colleagues, the IRSE Annual Dinner is now fully booked.

We look forward to seeing so many of you for this much anticipated in-person event in London.

Irish Section Technical Visit

20-21 May 2022; Dublin, Ireland

The IRSE Irish Section are delighted to be hosting a technical weekend in Dublin.

The weekend’s theme is ‘Shaping the Future’ and it plans to give the delegates an insight into Iarnrod Eireann’s major plans for the development of a National Train Control Centre, at Heuston Station, the introduction of a National Train Protection System and its level crossing control activity.

IRSE International Technical Conference and Exhibition

30 June – 2 July, 2022; New Delhi, India

This seminar will explore and understand the challenges and successes of the global signalling and communications industry and how India has played its part.

India is an emerging hub of technical innovation across multiple sectors. India’s growing foothold in the international railway community is a strong reminder of their ability to fully exploit their technical capabilities.

The programme includes technical papers, exhibition, technical visits to Delhi Metro and CTC at AGC Agra. There will be some sight seeing tours available for delegates and their guestsmore info / book

Visit to Fawley Hill Railway and Museum

31 Jul 2022; 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM (UTC+1)

The IRSE Minor Railways Section has arranged a summer visit to the Fawley Hill steam railway and museum on Sunday 31 July 2022.

The unique museum, not generally open to the public, includes a working 1 1/4 mile long standard gauge railway, complete with signalling and signal boxes on the steepest adhesion-worked railway line in the UK with a ruling gradient of 1:13.

There is a registration fee of £21.

Due to the notice period required by the museum, closing date for applications is 27 May 2022.more info / book

IRSE Convention 2022

12-16 September 2022; Glasgow, UK

BOOKING NOW OPEN 

The IRSE and the Scottish Section are delighted to host the return of the International Convention for 2022.

Based at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel in the famous Argyle Street, registration begins at 18:00 on Monday 12 September followed by a welcome reception where drinks and a finger buffet will be served. The full itinerary is in the final stages of planning but technical visits are scheduled to: Larbert School, the Carstairs resignalling project, the West of Scotland Signalling Centre, the Bo’Ness Railway, Glasgow Central Station and Glasgow Subway. In addition there will be supplier presentations and demonstrations, evening events and a partners programme.

Delegates will have time to explore the many delights this exciting city has to offer including its thriving food quarter and shops to rival any European city. Many of the country’s most famous sites including lochs and castles are within an hour’s travel from the city.more info / book

Level crossing obstacle detection: the next generation by David Jones – a Western Section lecture

As railway systems become increasingly computer and IP based, we reconsider the role of the transmission system in ensuring signalling and control system safety.

Does incorporating modern cyber security standards into our system change the nature of communications between safety systems, and can we use this to our advantage?

Module B/C study day – a Younger Members’ section workshop

Technical visit of the Bommersteintunnel and the 11th IRSE Swiss Section AGM

24 April 2022, 13:30-17:00 (UTC+1); Walenstadt, Switzerland

The Swiss section are delighted to invite you to the 11th Annual General Meeting organised to take place at the Hotel Restaurant Seehof in Switzerland. This event will be held in the German language and full details of the running order can be viewed in the PDF invite below. 

Concerning Covid-19, the regulations in force at that time must be observed.

There is the possibility of a joint dinner in the restaurant Seehof in Walenstadt from 18:30. 

Registration for this event is desired, including information on dinner participation (spontaneous participants may also come, but completing the survey will help us with the organisation. The registration for dinners is not binding).
