Message from Chairman of IRSE(HK), Session 2022-2024

First of all, I would like to take this opportunity to thanks all committee members to elect me as the coming Chairman of the IRSE HK Section. After I returned back from Beijing in year 2011, I was invited by Mr YF SUNG and Mr Alex WONG as the Executive Member. Through these years, I supported numbers of voluntary works to the Section, such as technical forum, technical visits, tutorials to the examiners in the UK annual IRSE examination and signalling courses to MTR Academy. Hence, I was promoted from Executive Member, Committee Member, Vice Chairman to Chairman. I sincerely appreciate your vote of trust on me and shall try my best to further development of the Section and hope to have all section members’ consistent unfailing support in future.

I would like to thank all our past Chairmen who has led the HK Section since year 1995 and let me express my heartfelt appreciation to our General Secretary, Mr. YF SUNG for his voluntary dedication in servicing the HK Section since his retirement in October 2004.

In the new term, I would like to set up my KPI of 4 “Must” and 4 “Hope” for the development of IRSE HK Section.

Must

  1. Strengthen communication with Headquarter UK IRSE office as there are many changes since the new committee members setup in 2019. We shall continue closely communicate with Headquarter UK IRSE to cope with their latest development.
  2. Similar to the past, the HK Section will continue to organize technical forums, technical visits and continue learning activities.
    • technical forum, make use of online meeting to expand more members to join the forum and bring people from different regions together to share the forum.
    • technical visits, not only in HK but Macau, China (Beijing, Hangzhou and Shenzhen), the future Great Bay Area or Southeast/Pacific countries due to cope with the change of Country to Reginal direction.
    • continue to conduct IRSE examination study course and continue to work with BJTU for the distance learning degree course.
  3. Invite our seasoned members to share their fruitful experience and knowledge to explore newer signalling engineering applications / practice for smart operations & maintenance and asset management in form of newsletter or forum to the members.
  4. To support and develop more young engineers to become signaling professional resources in the railway industry to cope with future development for the Greater Bay Areas which include 9 cities in Canton province (China) and HK & Macau.

Hope

  1. COVID-19 pandemic disappears, and have everything back to normal, especially for technical visits.
  2. Invite more members to do volunteer work, especially serve for BJTU course, such as student’s examination attendance, entertain lecturers during their coming HK for conducting course and co-ordination of section’s activities.
  3. Re-unit UK IRSE members (around 130) to the HK IRSE members, especially for those members working in MTR Signaling discipline.
  4. To have MTR Top Management continue support – providing classroom and facility for the BJTU course and their recognition for IRSE organization.

With team members’ endeavor and significant contributions, I believe that we can build a bright future for the IRSE HK Section. Looking forward to working together with you in the coming years
