The October issue of IRSE News is now available online
This month’s issue includes the latest news from the Institution and our Local Sections, including features on migrating to FRMCS, cab mobile connectivity in Great Britain and the role played in rail by MPLS.

Council Elections
All corporate members will be sent nomination forms for Council vacancies by email or post which need to be submitted, including agreement of all proposers by 1 December.
Vacancies available are:
- at Fellow grade – 1 seat each for UK, AHIN* and Rest of World**
- at Member grade – 2 seats for AHIN*
- at Associate Member grade – 1 seat for AHIN*
*AHIN is the constituency for members who live/work in Australasia, Hong Kong, India or Netherlands sections
**Rest of World is the constituency for members who live/work elsewhere (not in UK and AHIN)

More vacancies across the different regions will become available next year as we implement the changes to the Byelaws voted in last year.

IRSE professional exam day
7 October 2023, worldwide
Over 350 candidates will be sitting one or more of the IRSE exam modules remotely, monitored by remote invigilation and anti-plagiarism software.
The Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals is relevant not only to S&T engineers, but also to those working in other areas of railway operations and engineering who interface with signalling and telecoms equipment and colleagues. To find out more click here
The Advanced Diploma in Railway Control Engineering is the new name for the IRSE Professional Exam. It covers the same syllabus at the same depth, providing one of the main pathways to IRSE corporate membership and can also provide additional qualifications for professional registration. Scottish Section Annual Dinner

The IRSE Scottish Section have once again organised their annual dinner at the Marriott Hotel in Glasgow following their November IRSE lecture. The lecture, at the same venue, will be delivered by Lynsey Hunter and Dan Holder of Network Rail.

AusRAIL PLUS 2023
13-16 November 2023, Sydney AU
AusRAIL PLUS, the largest rail event in the Asia-Pacific is returning to Sydney.
More than 5,000 rail industry professionals are expected to attend the three-day event where more than 100 presenters and more than 300 exhibitors will be on display.
The extensive conference and exhibition includes various social events to network with industry peers and make new connections.

CBTC conference
30 November 2023; Toronto, Canada
We are delighted to announce that the 6th IRSE CBTC & Beyond Conference will be held at Fairmont Royal York in downtown Toronto on Thursday 30 November and Friday 1 December 2023.
The conference will cover advanced train control systems – implemented, projects in progress and in planning across metros, light rail transit, commuter rail, intercity and freight systems.
Early bird prices are available until the end of October.

Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
The IRSE provides many opportunities for members to keep their knowledge up-to-date, acquire skills and competence. Examples include:
- attending and participating in our section’s presentations, organising or even presenting them
- attending courses. Our members now have a discount on IMechE in-person and online courses, and also Network Rail have shared their non-technical skills e-learning with IRSE members.
- self learning through IRSE News, IRSE textbooks and IRSE exam modules
- volunteering, for example encouraging students into engineering careers
Don’t forget to record everything you’ve done and learnt – IRSE members have access to MyCareerPath to do this.
