Annual General Meeting

28 April 2023; Melbourne, AU

We are excited to announce the first IRSE AGM outside the UK will happen on Friday 28 April in Melbourne Australia at 07:00 UTC (08:00 UK and 17:00 Melbourne AU). The AGM will be livestreamed and recorded for future viewing.

Andy Knight will pass the Presidency to Steve Boshier at LXRP offices in Melbourne and Steve will detail his plans for his year on the theme ‘global integration’.

Presidential Lectures

Our incoming President, Steve Boshier FIRSE, is working hard on his Presidential Programme.  The theme will be ‘global integration’ and he will outline his plans for the year at the AGM on 28 April 2023.

The first lecture will be held in Adelaide, Australia on 4 May where Nigel Worrell will speak about ARTC LX Monitoring System.  This event will be recorded for later viewing.  

Steve will be in the UK for a week of meetings with members, staff and key industry figures and will be attending the Annual Dinner on 11 May, tickets available here.

ASPECT 2023

21-24 November 2023; Melbourne, Australia

The ASPECT 2023 organising committee are now working hard reviewing the paper abstracts and innovation ideas that have been submitted.  They are also planning site visits, ensuring a full 4 day programme in Melbourne.

The keynote speaker will be the Director General from Major Transport Infrastructure Authority (MTIA) who are currently spending over AUD$90b on major infrastructure improvements in Victoria, Australia.  These projects are part of Victoria’s Big Build Program, which is already delivering major benefits to transport users and operators.

Work is progressing with the booking and registration system which will open in the next few months.  Prices will be AUD$990 for IRSE younger and retired members, AUD$1,350 for IRSE members and AUD$1,750 for non-members.  There will be site visits on day 4, these will cost a further AUD$130 for members and non-members.

Western section presentation: An evening with Richard Brown

For many years Richard Brown has delivered his take on various RAIB reports to the western section to great acclaim. In his first appearance post-pandemic, Richard will converse with, and take questions from, the section and the audience on events and incidents in recent years, sharing his valued insight into what the industry needs to do to be a safer place.

IET Central London Network: Creating Great British Railways

Ambitious changes are coming to Britain’s railways, to help solve today’s challenges and make rail simpler and better for years to come. In this session, you can catch up on the latest developments with regards to rail reform and the work underway to create Great British Railways. Rufus Boyd (GBRTT) will outline how GBR will give clear, long-term direction and join up decision making across the rail system.

Australasia Section NSW: Railway Safety Management Systems and Signalling Standards

Minor Railways Section technical visit to Dean Forest Railway

22 April 10:30 – 17:00 (UTC+1); Lyndey, UK

With the kind permission of the Dean Forest Railway (DFR), the IRSE Minor Railways Section is arranging a Technical Visit to view the railway and its signalling on Saturday 22nd April 2023. The innovative train detection system being used on this railway was described at the sections Kidderminster technical seminar on the 16th November 2019 [more info]
