With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, it’s time to acknowledge the people you appreciate most. We know teams have been working hard on some brilliant projects, so why not put yourselves forward for an IRSE Global Industry Award?
Submitting an entry is a simple way to acknowledge technical excellence, collaboration, safety, sustainability, and the real impact your team has delivered.
The deadline to apply is Saturday 14 February. You may submit an entry for more than one category and it’s free to enter the awards.
Council Elections
Voting opens this month
Voting opens at 08:00 UTC on Monday 9 February and will close at 17:00 UTC on Monday 9 March.
MiVoice will send voting instructions by email to all members eligible to vote. Please ensure that we have your correct email address.
If you feel you are eligible to vote but don’t receive an email, please let us know at contact@irse.org.

IRSE Exam – Last chance to book!
7 March 2026; online
BOOKING CLOSES 6 FEBRUARY
Booking for the 7 March IRSE exam closes this month. Candidates will be able to sit the Certificate in Railway Control Engineering Fundamentals (Module A).
For those who have already booked their place, please make use of our many study resources – including practice exams, webinars and study sessions. All materials are available on the IRSE website.
All exams are held online and will be monitored by remote invigilation and anti-plagiarism software.

National Apprenticeship Week – Railweek 2026

National Apprenticeship Week is a week-long event that shines a light on the positive impact that apprenticeships can have on individuals, businesses, and the wider economy.
Young Rail Professionals will be running their annual event ‘Railweek’, highlighting the many routes there are into a career in rail, and recognising the apprentices, graduates and early career professionals who are already making an impact in their roles.
Presidential lecture

Vanessa Wragg (Network Rail) will explore ETCS in-cab signalling on London’s Northern City Line. She’ll share the shift from fixing physical assets to diagnosing system issues and talk on both the technical and leadership lessons learned against the backdrop of delivering Britain’s first no-signals commuter railway.
