Technical Forum - The Challenges of KSL Signalling on 8 July 2009
Dear All IRSE(HK) Members,
You are cordially invited to attend the captioned forum. Details of the event are summarised below for your reference.
Currently, East Rail Line and West Rail Line turnaround train service at East Tsim Sha Tsui station and Nan Chong station respectively.
Kowloon Southern Link (KSL) is a 3.8km new railway line extending the West Rail Line from Nam Cheong station to Hung Hom station via East Sha Tsui station. After the opening of KSL, Hung Hom (HUH) station becomes an interchange station between East Rail and West Rail. Apart from this, the Platform 3 of HUH is designed as a share platform for the operations of West Rail Line and East Rail Line.
Despite the relatively short alignment of KSL, the Signalling works involves substantial interfaces with the operational railway of East Rail and West Rail including the overlaying / interfacing of the West Rail Line Signalling with the East Rail Line Signalling. This poses a great challenge in integration complexity to both the MTR and the two Signalling contractors. It is also a great challenge to ensure that there is no disruption to the train service of East Rail Line and West Rail Line during the construction and system integration stages; and to collaborate with all stakeholders for delivering the Signalling systems on time and within budget.
